Zumba Sandra website

Turning Passion into business

Sandra DaCosta, 36 started learning Zumba less than a year ago and already she's running classes locally, with a little help from the Enterprise Centre.
Zumba is a form of Latin dance-fitness, using a variety of styles including memengue, reggaeton. salso and cumbia. It's suitable for everyone - Sandra does classes at pre-schools and has a friend who runs a class for over 50's - it's fun and it keeps you fit.
Although she always loved dance, Sandra needed some support to turn her passion into a business. She met Aparna and Kim at the monthly community market at the Enterprise Centre, and they encouraged her to move forward with her ideas.
Kim helped Sandra set up a website and design a flyer and Aparna helped her to put together a business plan. They meet regularly and the support has boosted Sandra's confidence and made her more proactive.
The future is bright for Sandra - she sees a big market for Zumba and she wants to reach more people and take more classes.
Sandra's Zumba classes are at the Porchester Sports Centre West London on Wed 10 - 11am or Friday 7-8pm
and Academy Sport West London on Fri 4.30 -5.30pm (for adults and 7-12 yr-olds).

Animal of Your Heart Website

"The Elephant of My Heart by "Jessica Clements

"The Elephant of my Heart"
is my story. I was a very sick nine year old when I was introduced to a elephant. He then took me on a journey where I met all my other animals. They are a snake, a dragonfly, a phoenix, two of his fleas, a black panther and a very self-assured goldfish. These animals gave me gifts of great beauty and power and helped me see my illness as nothing more than a walk in the park - or in my case a walk in the jungle.

If you would like to read more of the book you can purchase it by contacting Jessica Clements on 0793 153 9128 or email animalofyourheart@yahoo.co.uk
Jessica also has an audio CD the visualisations are used in the adult "Animal of Your Heart" workshops and are available to buy from Jessica on the above number.

Adult "Animal of Your Heart" Workshops

The next Adult "Animal of Your Heart" Stress Management workshop on Thursday 2nd April

from 7:00pm until 9.30pm

The price is £10 or £5 concession. This includes refreshments.

The venue is St Peter's House, 59, Elgin Ave, (though the entrance is on Chippenham Rd)

DEBRANNIES CATERING

DEBRANNIES CATERING

Hanna Sintim set up Debrannies to provide all kinds of catering including for community events such as public meetings, tea dances for the over 50s and private parties. She has also started a Community Café at a local Church and runs the Coffee Shop at a health centre. She is a trained, qualified and experienced chef and has worked as Head Pastry Chef at Kensington Place, west London.

She started her journey to setting up her business with a course provided by the Portobello Business Centre. This was a four day course that took participants through all aspects of business with presentations from experts in tax and accounting. The business plan was the most useful thing for Hanna while starting off. Her Business Adviser, Maria Stammers, helped her by looking through her books and coming to observe her at work in her catering business. Hanna's
adviser gave her constructive feedback on how she could improve her business to make it more attractive to customers.

One area that is a struggle for her is finance. She says that she has had difficulty in identifying the benefits that she is entitled to as a self-employed person with her own business. What would have made a difference to her experience is being clear about what benefits are available to her and exactly what loan finance is available to support her business. She describes her position at the moment as 'being in a
grey area'.

For the future, Hanna has great plans for Debrannies including setting up a patisserie. She wants to further establish the business and to increase the number of catering contracts.

Hanna feels that the best thing about starting her own business is making her own decisions and being able to do what she likes to do. Although it is a struggle, it is a very exciting time for her.
